For over a decade, my web design company in Hong Kong consistently ranked high in Google search results, so I rarely invested in online advertising. However, when I started my business in Taiwan, the company’s website didn’t have a significant market advantage, forcing me to rely on paid ads initially to boost visibility. For a small business like mine, the pressure of advertising costs was considerable.
At first, to ease the burden on the Taiwan branch, the advertising expenses were mainly covered by the parent company in Hong Kong, as the Taiwan branch had little revenue in the early stages. However, advertising is a complex science. I spent over a year learning how to effectively advertise on Google and Facebook, but the results were less than ideal.
Fortunately, I had already prepared a backup plan when I arrived in Taiwan: running my own YouTube channel with minimal operating costs. This channel, originally intended as a platform for sharing my personal life, also became a crucial tool for promoting my business. Today, my channel has over 1,200 subscribers and has accumulated more than a million views. This has allowed me to advertise on my own platform, significantly reducing costs.
Managing my YouTube channel has been a journey filled with challenges and growth. Instead of overly promoting my business, I chose to focus on documenting daily life, occasionally sharing the latest company updates. I hope that by seeing our growth, Taiwanese viewers will naturally become interested in our web design services and reach out to me. My channel is also linked to the Taiwan company’s Facebook page, further expanding our exposure opportunities.
At the same time, I’ve been documenting my experiences with investment immigration, entrepreneurship, and everyday life. These memories and insights are preserved in the blog section of our Taiwan company’s official website. I also ask my Taiwanese friends to help share these stories, hoping to resonate with more people and connect with more friends. This isn’t just a reflection on past experiences but also a hope for the future.
Thanks to the serendipitous arrangements of fate, we’ve recently started receiving invitations for interviews with online media. I believe that as long as we continue to increase our exposure, our Taiwan company will thrive. I am deeply grateful to Taiwan for giving me this opportunity to start anew.
