As a native Hong Konger, I have always had a strong connection with Taiwan. During my secondary school years, I often purchased programming and web design tutorial books from Taiwan. I would also visit websites created by people from Taiwan, who were very generous in sharing valuable computer knowledge, greatly benefiting me.
The most memorable website was the Yam News back then, which could be considered one of the top search engines in Taiwan. I discovered many high-quality Taiwanese websites there. Due to the extremely slow internet speed at that time, the connection between Hong Kong and Taiwan had to go through undersea cables, first to the United States and then to Taiwan. Despite the geographical proximity of Taiwan and Hong Kong, the internet distance was considerable during those years. Browsing Taiwanese websites at that time surprisingly trained my patience.
About twenty years ago, in my final year of graduation, I established a web design company in Hong Kong. I was very fortunate as the client base grew slowly from that time and continues to grow until now.
A few years ago, I already had plans to immigrate, and Taiwan was my top choice, of course. Because my wife and I have always liked Taiwanese culture, we have been watching Taiwanese variety shows and dramas for more than ten or twenty years, and we really enjoy Taiwanese food.
My wife and I have traveled to Taiwan several times and have felt the warmth and friendliness of the Taiwanese people. Last year, due to the pandemic, it became even clearer to us that Taiwan is one of the safest places in the world.
Finally, we decided to come to Taiwan through the investment immigration program and start our second beautiful life here. Now, with two web design companies operating collaboratively in Hong Kong and Taiwan, we feel that the synergy is greater than the sum of its parts.
I’ll end here for today; being in Taiwan has helped me understand life better. To find out what happens next, please stay tuned. Thank you for reading.
